Overview
Who’s Eligible: Young Writers (13-19)Tooltip
Piece Length: 1-100 words

Can you write a story in 100 words, dear writers? Otherwise known as the drabble or microfiction, stories of this length are challenging to pull off. And yet writers often find these stories-in-miniature to be liberating. “There was more room to think,” wrote novelist David Gaffney on becoming a flash fiction convert, “more space for the original idea to resonate, fewer unnecessary words to wade through.” This month, we invite you to gather your briefest stories, your fleeting inspirations, your poetic impulses, and present us with “a work of art carved onto a grain of rice”* in 100 words or less.

Competition Opens: Monday, August 5
Submit for Expert Review (**NOTE: cap of 50 submissions**): By Monday, August 12
Final Entries Due: Monday, August 26
