Dreaming of Forever

Build me a temple of stone, and
we’ll see if you visit it in the next year, or
in the next twenty.
because you want to remember me again?

Create a shrine for me, and
yet I’ll still be wondering if those candles are scented
with hibiscus
because you somehow remembered the name of my
favorite flower.

and yet I never cared to look back,
never cared to wait in a courtyard of stone
until now,
until a little voice inside my head whispers to me:

“There’s power is staying behind,
in not letting go.”

until blushing hibiscus juice dribbles down my fingers,
rolls down my wrists, my elbow.
[It’s kind of odd, how I feel right now,
yet I know I’ve never been more of myself.
How sorrowful it is to wear a mask so often
I feel strange being myself?
how sorrowful it is to wear a mask so often
i forget who I am inside?
]

Dreaming forever.
and yes, I know, my title is stupid but I couldn’t think of anything else.
also um please don’t interpret this as romantic.

This is such a beautiful and poetic piece. I love the way you talk about memory and identity (or at least thats how I interpreted it). It also reminded me a lot of the role memory has in the process of grief. Great job on creating something so splendid and thought provoking!

Great imagery, hibiscus flowers are so beautiful and I love the way you captured that in the story and how you also made it into a sort of symbolism towards the end of the text :)

Re: India huh, well I am jealous. I wish I am on vacation, traveling, but no, lockdown. Thanks for the praise, tho you handle long verses better than I do. For this one, I don’t really understand the necessity/ choice of hibiscus and mask. Just my own opinion and stuff, so don’t mind too much, but won’t focusing on the temple, your praying hands, and the candle “that smell of your name”, be more concise. Just saying. Still, well done, good work!

You’re back! Never knew you were a fellow semicolon lover :)
The first line caught my attention immediately: “Build me a temple of stone, and //we’ll see if you visit it in the next year, or //in the next twenty. ” A beautiful piece
